This article from the Journal of Food Distribution Research examines the characteristics of New Jersey farms engaging in agritourism using 2007 Census of Agriculture data. The study finds that agritourism is a is a prime example of positive adaptation to urbanization pressure, in which farmers seek to capitalize on access to nearby urban markets for their products, expand on-farm employment, and promote greater appreciation and understanding of farming within the nonfarm community, enabling the continuation of working farms on the urban fringe.
