Does Placemaking Cause Gentrification? It's Complicated

This article argues that placemaking does not cause gentrification. It points out that there is a difference between placemaking and development, in that one engages the community and builds social capital while the other serves the developer. It concludes that placemaking may be an effective way to prevent gentrification, rather than leading to displacement.
