Poverty today is concentrating in suburbs. Forces that will remain after the COVID-19 pandemic — exploding demand for urban living; relocating the knowledge economy into cities; and growing income inequality are powering this change. In cities, "neighborhood change" signifies gentrification and displacement; in suburbs, it signifies new concentrations of poverty.
Presenters summarize the forces reshaping suburbs. and identify essential economic development, policy, mobility, affordable housing, and governance steps to equip suburbs to address equity and inclusion. They describe experience helping suburbs develop inclusive economic development strategies that support a wide spectrum of job opportunities. Learn strategies for making common ground into inclusive public places, supporting a new of mixed-income neighborhoods, and inviting a broad spectrum of jobs and investment that are welcomed by suburbs that traditionally oppose jobs outside of landscaped office parks.
