Forrest County's Planning Director Elected to National Planning Board
CHICAGO — Kara W. Drane, AICP, Forrest County, Mississippi's Planning Director, was elected to serve as a Director on the American Planning Association's (APA) Board of Directors. APA is a 40,000-member organization that provides leadership in the development of vital communities. Drane began her term May 30.
She is one of 13-members on the APA Board of Directors, governing the association and setting strategic goals. Drane will serve four years in this volunteer position.
Prior to serving as the Planning Director for Forrest County, Mississippi, Drane worked in Pendleton, South Carolina, as a planning consultant, and Hattiesburg, Mississippi, as a planning administrator.
Drane has been active within the APA Mississippi Chapter, including serving as chapter president and as chapter professional development officer. She has received three chapter leadership and achievement awards for her work within the chapter.
She also is an active community member. She is a charter member for the Pine Belt Wellness Council and a charter board member for the Pine Belt Pathways. She also serves on the leadership team for the American Heart Association, and is a member of the Junior Auxiliary of Hattiesburg, and the Mississippi Heritage Trust.
Drane is a certified planner and received her bachelor's degree in Community and Regional Planning from the University of Southern Mississippi.
