APA Interact
APA POLICY AND ADVOCACY
APA's 2018 legislative priorities

This year, as part of our advocacy for policies and legislation that support members' efforts and promote good planning, APA calls on Congress to advance four policies that will lead to stronger, more inclusive communities nationwide. Our agenda, adopted last week by APA's Board of Directors, also identifies strategies for advancing legislation grounded in principles of good planning.

Members of APA's grassroots Planners' Advocacy Network shared our legislative priorities with more than 100 congressional offices prior to last evening's State of the Union address. We can do more! Please stand with APA as we advocate for smarter investment in infrastructure, expanded housing choice and affordability, greater support for federal data programs, and more investment in healthy and safe communities.

State of the Union

In his first such address, President Trump called on Congress to pass major legislation in 2018 to modernize America's crumbling infrastructure. Although his remarks were met with applause, many in Washington, including APA, are raising important questions that Congress and the administration must tackle in order to strike a deal. In our blog, APA's Director of Policy Jason Jordan outlines what the president's comments mean for infrastructure legislation and other planning issues on APA's radar.

As Congress prepares to take on infrastructure in the days and weeks ahead, we call on planning advocates to share with their representatives APA's infrastructure principles — nine policy ideas that will lead to smarter investment.

Streamline your city's permitting and licensing in 2018

Permitting a business or residential project can be complex. OpenCounter streamlines the process by revealing where the project is allowed, which permits are required, and how much the permits will cost. This simplifies the process and saves time for applicants and staff. Learn more at www.opencounter.com.
NATIONAL PLANNING CONFERENCE
Why attend NPC18?

The National Planning Conference is about more than planning — it's also about growing a professional network among a community of great planners. #NPC18 in New Orleans, April 21–24, promises four days in the vanguard of planning, learning first-hand about the city's unique planning endeavors and celebrating its rich 300-year history. Need more reasons to attend? APA has more than enough to persuade you — and your boss!
